“Es ist ein Ros entsprungen” (A rose has sprung up)

A traditional German Christmas song from ca. 1600 that I’m getting ready to play for our Christmas Eve liturgies. The tune became most popular in Michael Praetorius´ harmonization from ca.1609.  This is a lovely arrangement by guitarist Eve Beneke that she published in 2006.

The Famous Weiss – David Miller, Baroque Lute

I’m very excited to read of a new CD by David Miller entitled, “The Famous Weiss,” Miller is a superb Lutenist from the United Kingdom who performs and records with all the principal English period instrument orchestras and with many of the finest ensembles, appearing at numerous prestigious European music festivals. Of Particular interest to me is the inclusion of the Weiss Sonata 5 in D-minor which I have been learning from a transcription by Michael Lorimer for guitar in E minor.  It’s not available until February in the U.S., so this short video introduction will have to do. See my portfolio page for the movements I have been working on with guitarist and master teacher, Jason Vieaux.

Now available in the USA on iTunes.
